Compass Walk: Game for students to learn trust in partners and learn to trust a compass.
Players: Partners.
Formation: Scattered formation in large open space.
Equipment: Blindfolds.
Description: To start, partner 1 identifies a distant object (about 50- 100 metres away) from across the space – a tree, rock, goal post - and announces the object to partner 2. Partner 2 is then blindfolded and must walk directly to the object (and STOP when they think the destination has been reached). To ensure safety, partner 1 acts as spotter – follows blindfolded partner. They cannot verbally or physically assist their partner, rather their role is to prevent them from encountering unsafe obstacles. Switch roles.
Hint: This is a helpful exercise when introducing the use of a compass – trust the compass NOT your sense of direction.
